Dear WVPL Partner:

I am delighted to share a momentous occasion – our library's 100th Anniversary! Since our founding, the Wissahickon Valley Public Library has been a beacon of knowledge, creativity, and community spirit. Now, as we prepare to celebrate this remarkable milestone, we invite you to join us in commemorating a century of literary enrichment and cultural growth.

For a century, our library has been more than just a building filled with books. It has been a haven of learning, imagination, and connection. Through the years, we have proudly served generations of families, nurtured young minds, fostered curiosity, and provided a space where people from all walks of life can come together. To mark this occasion, please join us for our 100 Year Anniversary Celebration Gala and Silent Auction on Sunday, April 28, 2024, from 4pm to 6pm at the Main Library in Blue Bell. Come sample local food, beer & wine, bring one treasured book for an informal evaluation, enjoy friendly conversation with fellow library lovers, and get a closer look at the auction items to make your bids! You may pick up an invitation at the circulation desk at either branch, or get tickets online through Paypal (click the DONATE button above). Tickets are $40 per person. All proceeds benefit the Main Library Renovation.

As much as this anniversary is about celebrating the past, it is also about looking toward the future. We aim to continue our mission of promoting literacy, supporting education, and building a stronger, more connected community and we need your help. In order to do that, we need to renovate the main library in Blue Bell.

The roof on the main library is 40+ years old, and it needs to be replaced.  Next, we need to fix plumbing issues and renovate the bathrooms, which haven’t been touched since 1994.  After that, the parking lot needs to be resurfaced, something that I think we have all seen needs to be done.  Only after these major tasks are completed, will we start working on interior changes such as improved study rooms, new carpet, furniture and paint.

We would love to have the outside of the library reflect all the wonderful activities going on inside.  

How can you help? While we are working hard at getting grants, like the Keystone Grant, to replace the roof, we still need between $200,000 and $400,000 to complete the project.  Won’t you help us create a safe and attractive environment for children to play and learn, a place where students and adults feel comfortable reading and studying, a modern building where families can enjoy spending time together with their kids and a welcoming space where adults and seniors can socialize and learn new things together that help keep them young?
