Circulation Policy

The WVPL card entitles you to use the main library at 650 Skippack Pike in Blue Bell (215-643-1320) and the Ambler Branch at 209 Race St. in Ambler (215-646-1072) as well as public libraries that participate in the Access Pennsylvania Statewide Library Card System.

In order to borrow materials from the library you must present your library card when checking out.  Your library card is not transferable and may only be used by the person to whom it is issued.  You are responsible for all items borrowed with your card.  Each family member living or working in the Wissahickon School District is entitled to his or her own library card.  Lost cards should be reported promptly to avoid having materials charged to your card. Replacement cards may be obtained at either branch with your ID.

In addition to books we have materials in a variety of formats to meet your information needs.  The following is a list of the library media types and their loan periods:

  • Fiction and Non-fiction books, non-fiction DVDs, feature film DVDs older than 6 months, audio books, CDs: 21 days
  • New DVDs, video games, magazines: 7 days
  • Museum Passes: 3 days
  • Downloadable eBooks, downloadable audio books: 14 days (Note: You can change the default loan period for downloadable eBooks and eAudio books: 14 days to 7 or 21 days.)

Any WVPL item that is eligible for renewal will be automatically renewed if it is not returned. The automatic notification will go out 4 days prior to the due date saying that the item has been renewed, and the new due date will be 3 weeks after the original due date. Most items may be renewed if there are no current reserves on them and no blocks on your account. You may also renew items or place a request by telephone during library hours or on our website 24/7: www.wvpl.org.  Log into your account. Click on Items Out to renew, or search for a new title and Place Request. Items that can't be renewed are video games and museum passes. After two renewals, the item must be returned or the item will be considered lost and you will be assessed a replacement fee.

WVPL does not charge overdue fines on items owned by WVPL. However, other libraries may charge overdue fines on items that they own. Patrons must return WVPL items to our libraries in either Blue Bell or Ambler in order to avoid fines. Please see our Fine Free Policy for more information.

The Rental Book Charge is $2.00 per three weeks.

Persons who lose or damage library materials beyond repair will be charged the retail price of the items plus a processing fee. These costs may vary depending on the owning library. You may use the book and AV drops to return materials.
