In honor of Leonard Bernstein's 100th Birthday, we will host a classic movie musical matinee screening of "West Side Story," for which Mr. Bernstein wrote perhaps his most memorable musical score with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
Originally released in October 1961, the film won Best Picture in 1962. Join us and revisit the Romeo and Juliet-inspired love story of Tony and Maria, set on the streets of New York, where rival gang members battle for control. With iconic songs such as "Somewhere," "America," Maria," Tonight," and unforgettable dance sequences, "West Side Story" is a landmark piece in the genre of the American musical. The Library of Congress selected the film to be part of the National Film Registry in 1997.
