The Wissahickon Valley Public Library is holding its first ever Read-a-thon/Telethon on March 9, 2013 from 9 AM-9 PM.

The library has an anonymous donor who challenged the library to raise $10,000 from new donors.  Anne M. Frank, Director of the Library, said, “The library responded by sending an annual appeal and a newsletter to all patrons of the library.  That has garnered almost $7,500.  Our challenge for the Read-a-thon/Telethon is to raise the remaining $2,500 for the match.”

“The Read-a-thon/Telethon has people talking, they want to know exactly what it is,” says Lynne Tillet, Volunteer Coordinator. The library has invited readers from County Commissioner Josh  Shapiro and State Representative Kate Harper to Michael Morsch, Montgomery News Editor to local authors, teachers, firemen, township officials, actors, musicians and of course, librarians. Each hour, the focus will shift from readings for adults, to readings for children.
People are encouraged to come out, not just to listen to the marathon of readers, but to spend some time reading in the library themselves, or with their families.  Attendees can log their reading time to earn raffle tickets for prizes including gift certificates, games, jewelry and books.  They can also enjoy some free snacks and a wandering magician.

While the Read-a-thon is in full swing, volunteers will be in the back office calling library patrons asking for a donation to help meet the $10,000 match.

We will have a raffle pull for prizes!
Refreshments will be available
