The Chess Club at Blue Bell meets weekly at Blue Bell on Wednesdays at 7 pm.
Must already know how to play at any level.
Coordinated by Carl Bingler.
Children who want to play chess are welcome; however a parent must stay with the child.

Family History Research

Family History Research with Connie Briggs, Family History Researcher.
Make an appointment to find out about your ancestors! All you will need to bring with you to begin your research is the name and place of residence for one or more of your ancestors living in the U.S. between 1850 and 1930.  This will also work if you have an ancestor living in the UK between 1841 and 1911.

Using Connie's laptop, the Internet, and some great online resources, she will show you how to trace your family tree back in time. Maybe you will find some lost family secrets! Friends Used Book Sale


The Friends, a national organization, offers bi-annual used book sales.  Sales start with over 10,000 items. General Pricing: $1.00 for hardbacks and trade editions, 50 cents for regular paperbacks, children's books vary from 2 for a quarter to $1.00, special value books are marked and music CDs for $3.00 per single disc with larger sets marked.

Hatha Yoga Class

This 8-week session of Hatha Yoga will run from January 6 to March 5.
Continuing by popular demand Hatha Yoga Class at WVPL, Blue Bell.
Mondays   1:30-2:30 pm
$35 for all 8 classes or $8 per drop in.
Bring mat or towel to class.

 

Homework Help

Dr. Midey Chang-Mateu is providing free tutoring in science and math for high school and middle school students. She is also tutoring students taking the GED. Tutoring is being offered at the Ambler Library. Leave your name and the student’s name with the Staff at the Ambler Library,  215-643-7775 and Dr. Chang-Mateu will contact you. Due to the high demand for Dr. Chang-Mateu's skills, this service is offered only to WVPL patrons.

Interview Practice for Veterans

Interviewing for a job can be stressful for anyone, particularly for a veteran.   RSVP is offering a way for job seekers to be prepared for an interview.

RSVP volunteers offer their skills and advice through the Wissahickon Valley Public Library by conducting FREE interview practice sessions for those looking for employment or needing to brush up on their interviewing skills.  These mock interviews will prepare job seekers to feel confident during a job interview.

Sessions include:

  • How your training in the military can translate to a civilian position
  • Resume review
  • How to present a positive impression (including dress, grooming, etc.)
  • Realizing and promoting your best assets
  • How to answer tough questions
  • What to say or not to say
  • Job coaching

Interviews are conducted on a one-on-one basis. You will receive constructive and confidential feedback to prepare you for the job market.

Let's Read Math

Let's Read MathTM

Books and math together!  Think it can't be done?  Think again.
Students will learn a math skill through stories and an activity.

Join us for one of these 3-week sessions:

  • Grades K-2 in April: April 8, 15, and 22. Registration is CLOSED.
  • Grades 3-4 in May: May 6, May 13, and May 27 at 4:30 PM. Registration begins May 1st.
  • Look for sessions in the Fall of 2014.
