An ONLINE program presented by The Mutter Museum

The 1918-1919 influenza pandemic infected nearly one third of all humans on Earth and resulted in over 50 million deaths. The worst hit city in the United States was Philadelphia, where roughly 16,000 people died from the “Spanish flu.” However, despite its significant impact on human history, many people have never heard of what some have called the “forgotten pandemic.” This lesson will help students understand the history of the 1918-1919 influenza pandemic, the virus that caused it, the impact of World War I on spreading the disease, the scientific and public health response to the outbreak, and the ways the pandemic influenced present-day medical knowledge and responses to infectious disease.

Ancient Egyptians produced a staggering array of spectacular jewelry, perhaps the most widely known example of which is the gold funerary mask of King Tutankhamun. One has to wonder: where did they get all that gold and precious stones?

This richly illustrated lecture examines the sources of ancient Egypt’s gold and minerals, including numerous examples of the exquisite pieces they produced. We also learn how ancient Egyptian jewelry was intended to be functional, not just admired.

This lecture literally drips in gold!

Eric Bell, author of two juvenile fiction novels, will offer a introductory workshop on how to write for young readers.

  • common misconceptions about children’s publishing

  • the difference between traditional and self-publishing

  • AND how you (yes, you!) can see the world through a child’s eyes

ABOUT THE PRESENTER 

As an experienced Meditation Teacher and Mindset Coach, Jason Blau helps individuals feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or stuck in their life. His goal is to help people become clear on what they want, feel happier and peaceful, and enhance every aspect of their life by teaching them how to meditate.

Jason became passionate about the life-changing effects of a daily meditation practice through his own personal journey.  Just seven years ago,  he was juggling the demands of a young marriage, a newborn child, a graduate school program, and a high-pressure career.  Jason discovered meditation and began practicing daily. He used this transformative tool to stop negative thought patterns, manage emotions, and to become less reactive.  As a result, everything in his life began to change for the better!

He decided to shift his career and become certified to teach meditation and yoga.  He opened the first guided meditation studio in the Philadelphia area - instructing over 3500 people to date. Jason has also worked with corporations and school districts helping to positively influence the culture of these organizations. 

Jason believes meditation is the foundation for transformation and success. His techniques have helped so many to learn to meditate and create a daily routine that fits into their lifestyle. One that improves their well-being, and helps them to achieve their goals while feeling peaceful and happy inside.  Getting started is often the hardest part - he is excited to show you how!

Jason Blau is the former owner of Sit Meditation Space, a guided meditation studio in the Philadelphia area.

Before teaching meditation, Jason spent over 15 years in Medical Device sales, a very high pressure, fast paced and extremely stressful environment. His meditation journey began when he needed to find a way to cope with the moment-to-moment stresses of life, and to slow down. He found meditation and everything in his life completely shifted and began to align with who he is truly meant to be.

Jason is a graduate of the Penn State Smeal College of Business in which he earned his MBA in 2015. He is trained and certified to teach meditation and has completed a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training. He is deeply grateful for the loving wisdom his teachers have shared with him.

Since 2016, Jason has taught more than 1000 people how to meditate and achieve inner peace and silence. As a meditation teacher and spiritual life coach, Jason hopes to help empower others and inspire them to live happy and peaceful lives.
