Join us for a program about Penllyn Village, a small village within Lower Gwynedd Township that has played a unique role in local history. The program will briefly describe the origin of Lower Gwynedd and then focus on the 19th century when Penllyn Village became a predominately black portion of a predominately white township. For many decades, the social and religious center of Penllyn Village was Bethlehem Baptist Church, then located at the intersection of Penllyn Pike and Trewellyn Avenue. We will also cover the litigation filed by black leaders of Penllyn Village that led to the desegregation of the Lower Gwynedd School District's elementary schools.
