Pennsylvania is the only state named for its extensive forests—and that legacy lives on today. With 135 native tree species and more than 60 additional species that have become naturalized, trees are a defining part of our landscape. They offer beauty, shade, and a sense of calm and connection to nature.
For anyone who loves trees or wants to better understand them, join retired botany professor Gary Emberger for an engaging and informative program. This presentation will introduce key botanical terms and concepts to help sharpen your observational skills and build confidence in identifying trees.
The program will feature slides of many common tree species, along with a helpful handout. Leaf and twig samples will be available to bring the terminology to life.
Following the presentation, participants are invited to join the presenter for a guided walk around the library grounds, using the handout to help identify approximately 12 different tree species in real time.
